Comparing STS Test Results

Please exercise caution when comparing results. Scale scores for Standards-based Tests in Spanish (STS) may be compared to scale scores for a prior year for the same subject, grade, and test. This allows users to say that performance for STS in grade five was higher or lower in 2017-18 compared with STS in grade five in 2016-17, for instance.

When comparing results for the STS, no direct comparisons should be made between grades. Two types of comparisons are possible: (1) comparing the mean scale score; or (2) comparing the percent of students scoring at each performance level. The viewer may compare results for the same grade and subject within a school, between schools, or between a school and its district, its county, or the state. When making comparisons, the viewer should consider comparing the percent of students scoring proficient and advanced. This is because the state target is for all students to score at or above proficient.
